Details of Experience:
This patient was admitted to Hospitality Center for Rehabilitation and Healing on August 24, 2016. She was experiencing extreme stomach and back pain, where moving would only cause increased discomfort. It had been a while since she had been able to walk due to the pain she was experiencing. In result of her condition, the patient later developed problems with balance and stability. When asked what she would like to get out of therapy she replied, “Endurance, to stand and walk farther and longer than able to now. To feel more stable.” She also wanted to get stronger so she could take care of her daughter. She had physical and occupational therapy, focusing on building up strength.
Her therapist, Rob, explained that she had trouble walking and getting out of bed when she first arrived; however, she quickly progressed. “She worked very hard. She was very motivated.” They worked on strengthening her arms and legs, walking around the building and stair training to build strength in her knees. They also worked to manage her pain with modalities such as the diathermy. She praises the therapy team for her successes. “There are great people down in therapy. They do an amazing job. My arms and legs are stronger, I can walk farther. The people in therapy really motivate you to get better. I would definitely recommend this place.” This patient successfully later discharged home with her family after a short 34 day stay.
